The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, said ‘no’ to the SEP
While the federal Ministry of Public Education wants to close the school year on June 5, Nuevo León is going its own way. Samuel García announced that classes will continue until June 19, without cuts. The reason? According to him, the federal measure is a headache for families and a blow to the learning of children.
“We know that for many mothers and fathers, the decision of the federal SEP to end classes on June 5 represents a complication for their daily routine because they had not planned it, but, above all, a limitation to the educational development of their daughters and sons,” the president wrote in X.
How does Nuevo León play it?
The state started the cycle earlier, so it can stretch the calendar without problems. And to top it off, from June 22 to July 8 there will be workshops and sports camps in schools. A move so that the heads of families are not left in the lurch.
García assured that education continues to be a priority and that they will work together: government, teachers and families. Their goal: that Nuevo León continues to be the best place to learn.
“Education in Nuevo León is a priority for everyone: Government, teachers and families. We want our state to continue to be the best place to be educated,” he expressed.
With this, Nuevo León joins other states that have shouted down the federal proposal to shorten the 2025-2026 cycle. The argument is the same: it affects academics, family and work. We will see if the SEP listens or continues with its script.
