A display of power
Inter Milan had no mercy. This Sunday, the Serie A leader beat a Sassuolo 5-0 that ended up playing with ten. A resounding victory that allows them to sleep with eight points ahead over their closest pursuer, AC Milan.
Yann Bisseck and Marcus Thuram led the way in the first half. Then it was the captain’s turn.
Lautaro Martínez scored the third in the 50th minute, further establishing himself at the top of the scoring table.
Manuel Akanji and Luis Henrique completed the victory. Federico Dimarco was key with three assists. For Sassuolo, the expulsion of Nemanja Matic in the 54th minute ended any hope.
Dramatic draw in Turin
While Inter celebrated, Juventus experienced a rollercoaster of emotions at home. They were losing 2-0 against Lazio, but they managed to come back.
Weston McKennie closed the gap and, when all seemed lost, the unexpected hero arrived.
Pierre Kalulu appeared in the 96th minute to head in the final tie (2-2) and save a crucial point.
The ‘Vecchia Signora’ remains fourth, but knows that next Saturday it has a direct appointment with the leader. A match that promises fire.
Other notes from the weekend
- Parma achieved an agonizing victory (0-1) against Bologna thanks to a goal from Christian Ordóñez in stoppage time. A match marked by expulsions.
- Lecce, fighting not to fall, ended a bad streak of eight games without winning by beating Udinese 2-1 with a late goal from Lameck Banda.
- On Saturday, Napoli (third) had already put on another show: Rasmus Højlund scored a last-gasp penalty to give his team, which played with ten, the victory against Genoa (3-2).
Second-placed Milan were unable to play this weekend because the San Siro hosted the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Their match against Como will be played on February 18.
Serie A is heating up. Inter rules, but strong emotions are guaranteed.
