What a way to shut up mouths!
Mexico did not go to China on vacation. The diving delegation arrived, competed and stood on the podium with their heads held high. First, Osmar Olvera and Juan Celaya gave us money that we still feel in our chest. But the story didn’t end there.
The mixed team—Olvera, Randal Willars, Alejandra Estudillo and Aranza Vázquez—replicated the feat in the 3 and 10 meter mixed team event. Six routines, four individual and two synchronized, totaled 422.50 points. Enough to win another silver medal. China, as expected, took the gold. Australia settled for bronze.
“With the leadership of Olvera, the experience of Willars, the talent of Estudillo and the mettle of Vázquez, the Mexican team executed six routines that gave them a final score of 422.50 units.”
And the party didn’t stop there. Kevin Berlin and Randal Willars, on the synchronized 10-meter platform, fought each dive as if it were their last. They were one point behind Ukraine: 403.02 against 404.28. Gold, again, for China with 448.68.
This is no coincidence
These results are not luck. They are work, discipline and resilience. Mexico shows that it not only competes, but also consolidates itself as a protagonist in international diving. And the best: the local fans respect and recognize them. That, friends, is priceless.
The lesson? When talent meets preparation, the podium is just a matter of time.
