Trump’s rhetoric collides with an explosive reality
The American president released another inflammatory statement. He assured that “Iran is completely defeated and wants an agreement, but not an agreement that I will accept.” The message, published on his Truth Social platform, was accompanied by his usual attacks on the media.
“Media that spread fake news hate reporting on the successes the US military achieved against Iran,” he added.
But on the ground, actions paint a very different picture than discourse. Washington is not relaxing, quite the opposite.
Military movements and a key target
While Trump talks of defeat, the Pentagon prepares to send more troops and warships to the Middle East. The focus is on a nerve center: the Iranian island of Kharg, in the Persian Gulf.
That small piece of land is strategic. About 90% of the oilthat Tehran exports passes through there. Controlling, or threatening, that flow is squeezing where it hurts most.
The tension is not just rhetoric or displays. There are already real explosions. A drone attack hit the US embassy in Baghdad. A dense column of black smoke rose over the diplomatic complex.
A senior Iraqi official confirmed the incident, which left two dead after numerous explosions that echoed throughout the night.
Meanwhile, inside Iran, pressure is also mounting. The police arrested 54 supporters of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the last Shah who from exile aspires to lead a transition. Another 11 members of the so-called “monarchist faction” were “neutralized.”
The state agency Fars also reported two arrests for espionage for Israel and the United States. The internal message is clear: zero tolerance for dissent and foreign influences.
So we have the full picture: triumphalist statements from Washington, military reinforcements to the area, a direct attack on an embassy and internal repression in Iran. Defeat? The only thing clear is that the crisis is far from over.
