The Mexican ambassador to the United States, Roberto Lazzeri, affirmed that the T-MEC maintains solid support among US legislators. The statement comes after the Trump administration’s announcement not to renew the trade pact.
First tour at the Capitol
A few days after taking office, Lazzeri visited the Capitol. He met with Republican Adrian Smith, chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee, and with Democrat Linda Sánchez, minority leader on that body. Julio Berdegué, former Secretary of Agriculture, and officials from the Ministry of Economy also participated, as well as a bipartisan group of congressmen.
Strategic support
On social networks, Lazzeri described the expression of support for the strategic value of the T-MEC as positive. He highlighted the benefits of the agreement for the economies of the region. One of the central themes was strengthening agricultural integration and maintaining efficient supply chains.
The ambassador stressed that dialogue with Congress represents an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relationship through agreements and consensus. Mexico will continue to work with Republicans and Democrats to provide certainty to North American producers, consumers and investors.
