Morena’s coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, urged the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, to file criminal complaints for the leak of audios that allegedly address security issues.
Reports about espionage
During a press conference, Monreal indicated that the president may have been a victim of illegal espionage. He stressed that in Mexico the use of recordings obtained irregularly to affect public officials should not be normalized.
“What I would recommend to her is that she sue for espionage, and sue against whoever is spying on her illegally,” said the legislator.
Monreal maintained that any allegations arising from private conversations should be analyzed through legal procedures, not through leaks.
Possible more leaks
The deputy stated that until now he has not identified elements in the audios that suggest the commission of a crime. However, he clarified that if illegal conduct exists, it is up to the authorities to determine responsibilities with a formal investigation.
He announced that more recordings could be released if the governor was the target of espionage. He insisted on the need to clarify the origin of the audios and prevent illegal surveillance practices from becoming mechanisms of political confrontation.
