The master move of the 4T: corruption or transformation?
President Claudia Sheinbaum released a statement that sounds like a political thriller script: “Our movement came to power with a very clear slogan: end the regime of corruption and privileges.” And therein lies the crux of the matter.
“If we had not ended the corruption of the past, we would not have the Welfare Programs. How do the people of Mexico explain that today a trillion pesos are being allocated to dedicate directly to the people?” he said in the morning.
A billion reasons. Literally. Because that money, according to the president, went directly to Pensions and Welfare Programs. Payment for the May-June two-month period starts from May 4 to 27, according to the first letter of the last name. And be careful: the Secretary of Welfare, Leticia Ramírez Amaya, confirmed that 32 million beneficiaries will receive 104,768 million pesos in total.
But the plot doesn’t end there. Sheinbaum boasted that, thanks to honesty, collection without increasing taxes reached 5.3 trillion pesos in 2025. And the numbers sing: 13.5 million people escaped poverty between 2018 and 2024, intentional homicides fell 45% from 2024 to the first quarter of 2026, and they even approved Plan B to reduce councilors and congressional budgets.
“There was a fundamental transformation and we are not going to betray that transformation. Never,” concluded the President.
The trick behind the curtain? The narrative is clear: the fight against corruption is not just a slogan, but the key to financing well-being. But in politics, as in theater, each act has its setback. How much of this is reality and how much is staged? The data is on the table. You decide if it’s epic or just a tax magic trick.
