Paris Jackson, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, shared on Jack Osbourne’s podcast how her relationship with her father’s legacy has changed. For years he felt that he owed explanations to the public, but now he assures that that is no longer the case.
“That’s changed in the last few years because I don’t really feel like any of us owe anyone anything,” he said, also referring to his brothers Prince and Bigi.
A new stage
The singer and actress explained that she felt pressure to constantly talk about her father and publicly demonstrate her affection. Many followers expected him to validate that affection on social media, like any fan.
“Now I’m learning that I can have my own intimate connection and I have the right to keep it private,” she said.
Paris assured that she is going through one of the calmest moments in her relationship with her father’s memory. “I’m in a very beautiful place with my dad and I love it, and it’s nobody’s business.”
The model added that this decision has given her freedom. He no longer feels the need to prove his love by following the standards of people who never really knew the singer. “I did. He was my best friend,” he concluded.
In the past, Paris was criticized for not mentioning Michael Jackson among her musical influences or for not constantly talking about him. Some interpreted that as rejection. But she clarified that her artistic path is different.
More recently, Paris questioned the Michael Jackson biopic released in April. Her comments were seen by some as a rejection of the singer, but she explained that the criticism was towards the production, not towards her father. The tape, he said, contained inaccuracies and a version that did not correspond with his experience.
