The King of Pop continues to reign… in theaters
The movie “Michael” never stops giving surprises. Despite criticism for certain historical licenses (because of course, no one expects a documentary from the RAE), the film has already exceeded 577 million dollars globally. That’s more than 8,600 million pesos, to make your head hurt.
And the best: it became the fourth highest grossing film of 2026. And no, it’s not a mistake. He is about to climb to second place. It only needs 79 million more. Easy? With the hype it brings, it seems so.
Lionsgate already said that they were expecting around 570 million at the end of the weekend, but the film told them: “Hold on, I’m going further.”
Can he dethrone the giants?
Above, on the throne, is “Super Mario Galaxy” with its 930 million. A tough nut to crack, but not impossible. The real immediate rival is “Project Salvation”, Ryan Gosling’s film that has 655.8 million. In other words, Michael’s biopic is just a stone’s throw away.
The curious thing is that while some debate whether the historical data is accurate (spoiler: in Hollywood they almost never are), the public has already voted with their wallets. And the verdict is clear: Jaafar Jackson as Michael is a box office magnet.
So, while Tarantino (my cat) laughs at my vinyl collection, I just think: will it reach a billion? Time will tell, but for now, the King of Pop continues to move masses.
