President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that Mexico received 26.2 million international visitors between January and March 2026. The growth is 10.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
“Mexico is fashionable,” said the president, highlighting the country’s cultural richness and political moment as attractive factors.
Historical figures and economic benefits
The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, explained that these flows left a spill of 10,287 million dollars in the quarter. In March alone, four records were broken: international visitors, tourists, cruise passengers and cruise revenues, all above 2025.
By nationality, the increase of 34% in travelers from Spain and 23.1% from Colombia stands out.
The Mayan Train reported a 40% increase in foreign passengers, with more than 32 thousand users so far this year.
Strategy towards the Asian market
Rodríguez Zamora presented the plan to position China as the tenth issuing market by 2029. The “Close to China” certification seal will be promoted to attract Asian tourists.
With these results and the successful 50th edition of the Tianguis Turístico in Acapulco, the federal government maintains its objective of placing Mexico among the five most visited destinations in the world, according to Plan México.
