Same story again
Luisito Comunica has just starred in the classic millennial episode: “I trusted again and they saw my face again”. The YouTuber exploded on Instagram to say that he lost 1,300 dollars (about 22,500 pesos) buying tickets for The Weeknd in Mexico City through StubHub.
“I feel super stupid, they just stole $1,300 from me […] I bought tickets to go see The Weeknd on a page called StubHub,”
The irony is that this has happened to him before. With the same tickets from the same Daddy Yankee concert. And there is the absurd detail: he fell again. Like when you repeat a dating app knowing that it will only give you crumbs of attention.
“I trusted again because I was stupid”,
The promise vs. reality
StubHub sells itself as the savior of fans, with its “FanProtect Guarantee” that promises to refund your money or give you better tickets if something goes wrong. Sounds good, right? Until you get the email saying “your tickets have arrived” and your inbox is still emptier than my savings account.
“I never received (the tickets), I received the email that said: ‘you already received the tickets’, but they never arrived,”
Meanwhile, the company’s director, Wayne Grierson, continues to publish corporate messages about “helping fans access incredible experiences”. The disconnect is as wide as the generation gap between MTV and TikTok.
The most frustrating thing is seeing how these platforms fill their mouths with talk about community and experiences, but when something goes wrong, customer service disappears faster than a trend on Twitter.
“No one helps me”,
In the end, there is that uncomfortable feeling. On the one hand, you empathize with Luisito because who hasn’t been a victim of some suspicious digital transaction? On the other hand, you wonder why someone with his resources would trust again a site that has already left him in trouble before.
It’s the eternal cycle of the modern consumer: we trust fake reviews, we get excited with the promise of the perfect product and then we have to make a fool of ourselves online when everything goes wrong. At least this time we have Tarantino (my cat) to comfort us.
