In the first three days of the municipal program “People’s Day”, the Xalapa City Council has responded to a total of 341 citizen requests, the result of direct dialogue between authorities and the population, reported the municipal president, Daniela Griego Ceballos.
During the start of the fourth day, held at the Casa del Pueblo, the mayor described these meetings as intense and productive, since they have allowed us to learn first-hand about the main needs faced by different neighborhoods in the capital of Veracruz.
He specified that most of the requests are related to public works, with 184 requests focused mainly on paving, construction of stairs, retaining walls and rehabilitation of urban equipment.
Secondly, 113 requests were registered addressed to the Municipal Water and Sanitation Commission (CMAS/SEMAS), which cover rehabilitation work on drinking water and drainage networks, feasibility and repair of leaks. Added to these are demands regarding security, maintenance of parks and green areas, public lighting and direct support for people.
Griego Ceballos pointed out that some requests have been able to be resolved immediately thanks to the participation of heads of the different areas of the municipal government, while those that require a broader process, especially public works, will follow the corresponding administrative procedures.
Start of paving works approved
The municipal president also reported that in the Council session held the day before, a first general investment program was approved, which contemplates 24 paving works that will begin next week.
He explained that these actions meet the technical and legal requirements, such as the feasibility of water and drainage services, and in some cases they already have curbs and sidewalks. These are, he said, strategic roads that connect with streets already paved or that were affected by meteorological phenomena.
He added that in the coming weeks new work proposals will be presented in accordance with the provisions of the law, which is why he urged citizens to keep the boards updated, especially in neighborhoods that have requested works.
Direct attention and follow-up to demands
Finally, the mayor reiterated that the objective of the “People’s Day” program is to provide direct attention and clear answers to citizens, even when some demands have not been resolved for years.
“We are starting the administration and there is a commitment to promptly follow up on each request,” he expressed, while highlighting that this exercise strengthens the closeness between government and society, promoting a transparent, participatory government focused on offering concrete solutions to the people of Xalapa.
