Within the framework of the 109th anniversary of the promulgation of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, the municipal president of Xalapa, Daniela Griego Ceballos, led the fifth session of the People’s Day program, a space in which it was reported that the City Council has received 408 citizen requests from 142 neighborhoods of the municipality.
From the People’s House, the mayor highlighted that the Constitution is the axis that governs the social, political and economic life of the country, while welcoming members of the Cabildo, municipal officials and citizens who participated in this day of direct attention.
Griego Ceballos pointed out that during the month of January four People’s Day sessions were held, three in the Municipal Palace and one more in neighborhoods, which represented close to 30 hours of direct attention to the population.
He explained that the requests cover items such as paving, drinking water, drainage, public lighting, civil protection, public cleaning, parks and gardens, green areas, security, direct supports, property, DIF and employment, among others. These requests correspond to just over 25 percent of the almost 500 neighborhoods and subdivisions that make up the capital of Veracruz.
The municipal president explained that some demands have been addressed immediately, such as garbage collection, attention to leaks, pruning trees, minor maintenance of public spaces and lighting; However, others require greater planning and resources, mainly those related to infrastructure.
In this context, he reported that a first package of works of the General Investment Program (PGI) has already been approved and that an extension will soon be presented to the Council, in addition to new packages that could be put to a vote in the next sessions in February.
“Paving, as well as the inclusion and rehabilitation of drainage and drinking water, stairs and retaining walls, concentrate the largest number of requests and demand broader processes and resources,” he pointed out.
Finally, Daniela Griego asked citizens for patience and reiterated that the People’s Day program will continue to be carried out permanently, with a monthly session in neighborhoods and three in the City Hall, with the participation of heads of the different areas to provide timely follow-up to each request.
