The King of Fashion will have his moment of cinematic glory
It seems that the biopic factory of Hollywood and company does not rest, people. They just found their new victim… I mean, their new protagonist. The Italian producer Andrea Iervolino, the same one who brought us the adrenaline-pumping Ferrari, has just dropped the bombshell: it’s the turn of Giorgio Armani himself. Yes, the one with the perfume that we have all stolen from the fashionable aunt’s table at some point.
The news, confirmed by Variety, paints a film that promises to delve into the personal and professional evolution of one of the most influential designers of the last two centuries. Basically, we’ll see how a guy with a clinical eye for elegance built an empire that dresses everyone from the most A-list celebrity to your cousin at his wedding.
The mystery behind the man in the perfect suit
Here’s the problem, because Mr. Armani was as secretive as a CIA agent. An enigma wrapped in high-end cashmere. But every legend has its muse, and in this case, it was his partner and partner, the architect Sergio Galeotti, who tragically died in 1985 due to complications related to AIDS. A story of love, loss and resilience that will undoubtedly add layers of depth to the story.
The big question at the moment is whether the film will dare to reveal all the details of her private life or whether it will focus solely on her meteoric rise in the universe of fashion. And most importantly: will the Armani family have given their blessing to this project? For now, everything is mysteries bigger than the brand logo on a t-shirt.
The dream team behind the camera
Iervolino doesn’t mess around. To bring this epic of needles and patterns to life, he has recruited Bobby Moresco, the genius behind the script of Crash and his collaborator on Maserati: The Brothers (the one that had an amazing cast with Pacino, Hopkins and company). Come on, the guy knows how to handle dramas with gigantic egos and complicated legacies.
The producer is clear: “We all know the Armani brand, but we don’t always really know the man Giorgio Armani”. And he adds: “His story, his sacrifices and the vision that made possible an Italian dream recognized throughout the world deserve a complete tribute”. Translation: prepare for an emotional journey with a lot of fabric to cut, literally and metaphorically.
This project was born, in his words, from a personal desire to honor an innovator who became a symbol of Italian identity. In other words, it’s your hyperfixation of the month, but in a big way and with a Hollywood budget. It’s been in development for months, which in producer time means they already have the concept poster and everything.
What can we expect? Probably a mix of The Devil Wears Prada but with more historical substance, a touch of Call Me By Your Name due to that fundamental relationship with Galeotti, and all the visual spectacularity that a world where aesthetics is everything deserves. We are already imagining the montage sequences with the most iconic runway shows, the creation of that power suit that defined an era and, who knows, maybe even a cameo by a 90s supermodel to the delight of the nostalgic.
It is the cinematographic tribute that Armani’s heirs could receive “with respect and affection,” according to Iervolino. Or, as we would say, the perfect excuse for a movie night with looks inspired by the maestro. Because, let’s be honest, we’re all going to leave the cinema wanting to buy something from the brand, even if it’s just a pair of socks.
