José José’s family saga revives with accusations and denials
Anel Noreña, José José’s ex-wife and mother of his children, couldn’t take it anymore. He exploded against Manuel José, the Colombian singer who, despite a negative DNA test in 2011, continues to proclaim himself the biological son of the deceased ‘Prince of Song’.
Manuel José has built part of his career on that statement. Even after the death of José José in 2019, he reiterated it on a recent visit to Mexico: “I am the son of José José… I know that he accompanies me from heaven”.
“I am the son of José José, we cannot change that; but Manuel José is making his own history, his own path,” he told the ‘Hoy’ program.
He assured that he was never interested in the inheritance and that he maintains a close relationship with Sara Sosa, the artist’s third wife. What does bother him is being called an imitator for questioning his supposed genetic link.
But Anel had an answer in store. And it was direct.
“You are an imitator and a charlatan and there is no way, what can we do,” he declared bluntly. “You sold yourself as such, but you are an imitator and a charlatan, sorry.”
He went further and reminded him of the origins of his fame. “You did it by saying and promoting that you were the son of José José,” he stated. His final advice was clear: “You have talent, use it, make music and be happy.”
The controversy seems far from over. While Manuel José insists on his version, the official family of the musical icon is not willing to give ground in a story that mixes talent, legacy and a family dispute that has been going on for more than a decade.
