A point worth a relegation
The game was gray, dull and goalless. But that goalless draw between West Ham and Crystal Palace had enormous weight. It was the final nail in the coffin for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Wolves no longer have a mathematical escape. They are going to the Championship after six years in the elite. And the hardest thing is that it has been seen coming for months.
“Relegation seemed inevitable for the Midlands club for most of a disastrous season,” the analysis acknowledges.
Not even an improvement in recent weeks could change his destiny. Sometimes, when the boat is in a lot of water, no patch is worth it.
An ugly game with beautiful consequences (for some)
On the field, the duel in London was one to forget. Little football, few emotions. West Ham controlled at the beginning, but without aim. Palace reacted after the break, but did not create any real danger either.
However, for the Hammers that point is pure gold. They are two units away from Tottenham’s direct relegation position. Every point counts when you are in the hot zone.
For the Palace, another gray Monday. Their record at the beginning of the week is really bad: only three wins in their last 26 games.
Now, the eyes are on Molineux. The return to the second division is a very hard blow for a club with history and passionate fans. The Premier League says goodbye to the wolves… at least for now.
The fight not to fall intensifies. Every remaining match is a final.
