Which devices will lose compatibility with WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is one of the most used messaging applications. However, every month some cell phones are no longer compatible. The reason: security updates that no longer support outdated operating systems.
Starting in June 2026, the Meta app will only be compatible with Android 5.0 or higher and iOS 15.1 or later. This affects most phones released in 2014 or earlier.
Models that will no longer receive support:
- Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3
- LG G2, G3, L90
- Sony Xperia Z, Z1, Z2
- HTC One (M7, M8), Desire 500, 600
- Motorola Moto G (1st gen), Moto X
What to do if your cell phone is on the list?
Your WhatsApp account is not lost. It is advisable to back up your chats and migrate to a newer device. You can also use the desktop version, although with limited features.
The important thing is to keep your information safe. By not receiving updates, old phones are more prone to cyber attacks. That is why WhatsApp prefers to stop providing service before exposing users.
Get ready: if your model is from 2014 or earlier, at any time you will receive a notice within the app.
