The Cyber Police and Meta issued recommendations to reduce the risk of scams and cyber attacks through messages and calls. A critical point: many voicemails use a generic password, which makes it easy for criminals to access private data and banking keys. Changing that PIN is an essential measure against identity theft.
Reset voicemail password
To update your voicemail password, follow these steps:
- Go to “Settings” or “Settings” on your phone.
- Search for “Phone” or “Calling app.”
- Enter “Voicemail”.
- Select “Change PIN” or “Password”.
Two-step verification on WhatsApp
With the massive use of WhatsApp, Meta recommends activating two-step verification. This helps prevent account theft and allows linked devices to be reviewed.
To activate it:
- Open WhatsApp and tap the menu (three dots on Android; on iPhone go to Settings).
- Select “Account”.
- Press “Two-Step Verification” and then “Activate.”
- Create a six-digit PIN and confirm it.
- Optional, but highly recommended: add an email to retrieve your PIN if you forget it.
By activating this extra layer, if you reinstall the app or change devices, you will need your number, the SMS code and that personalized PIN to access your chats. A simple step that reinforces the protection of your information.
