The eternal game of dates
Millions of families are waiting. Like every two months, the support of the Rita Cetina Scholarship promises to arrive. It is 1,900 pesos per high school student, plus an extra if there are more children in the program. The theory sounds good: reduce school dropouts.
Practice, as always, is another story.
The ghost calendar
To date, there is no official payment schedule for the Benito Juárez Welfare Scholarships. It is usually published at the beginning of the period. But April is here and… nothing.
The official explanation is predictable:
“Because Easter 2026 is commemorated from March 29 to April 5, it is expected that this calendar will be announced on Monday, April 6. For this reason, there can be no talk of delays.”
Oh, sure. It’s not late if you never announced when you would start. Master move.
The preliminary estimates (that magic word that excuses everything) suggest that deposits could begin as of April 13. And they would be staggered in alphabetical order.
But be careful, this is not official. The National Scholarship Coordination will be the one who ‘confirms’ the dates. Some day.
Meanwhile, families plan ahead. And they learn, once again, that in this country certainty is a luxury that few can afford.
