The truce that was not
Russia launched dozens of drones against Ukrainian territory overnight, despite the unilateral ceasefire announced by kyiv. The Ukrainian authorities confirmed it this Wednesday, and reality hits again.
Moscow did not remain silent. The Russian Ministry of Defense assured that Ukraine did not respect the pause either and that they shot down 53 Ukrainian drones over different regions, including Crimea and the Black Sea. Crossed accusations, as always.
“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had declared the ceasefire as a symbolic measure, although he warned that any violation would be responded to militarily”
Meanwhile, Moscow did not officially confirm its adherence to the pause. So, in fact, the truce never existed.
What really matters
Behind the statements, there are families in shelters and soldiers in trenches. This is not an abstract crisis: it is the routine of millions who are no longer surprised when agreements are broken before being signed.
Zelenskyy knew it. That’s why he called his own announcement “symbolic.” But the symbolic does not stop explosives. And recent history teaches us that, in this war, promises last less than the echo of an explosion.
