Scares and triumph in Canada
Inter Miami added its sixth consecutive victory by beating Montreal 1-0, but the match was marked by the injury of forward Germán Berterame. In the 81st minute, Luis Suárez converted a penalty with a soft touch to beat Sébastian Breza and reach nine goals for the season.
However, the focus was on Berterame. The 27-year-old naturalized Mexican Argentine suffered a severe impact to the head after colliding with defender Efraín Morales. He became unconscious and was taken away by ambulance.
“At the moment he is recovering. He is fine, he is conscious. His family is calm,” explained Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos.
The Uruguayan Suárez scored his ninth goal of the tournament, sixth in the last three games. Rocco Ríos Novo saved two shots and achieved his second clean sheet as a starter this season.
Inter Miami has 37 points, second in the East, two behind the leader Nashville, which lost 1-0 to Orlando City. Lionel Messi did not play after the World Cup break, where Argentina lost in the final against Spain. Casemiro, former Real Madrid, debuted in the MLS.
Montreal has barely scored a goal in three games since the World Cup break. They lost two and tied one, finishing in 13th place in the East with 15 points.
