What’s coming up in Congress?
The Chamber of Deputies will start an ordinary period on September 1 with a busy agenda. Topics include the regulation of artificial intelligence, anti-corruption reforms and changes to the General Health Law.
Ricardo Monreal, president of Jucopo, advanced the axes of the debate:
“One of the main topics will be the regulation of artificial intelligence and digital platforms. The objective will be to discuss their benefits, risks and effects in areas such as privacy, security, as well as the impact of social networks on the mental health of girls, boys and adolescents.”
Anti-corruption and health
Another central point will be the creation of the figure of the undercover agent in administrative investigations. The proposal, promoted by the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat, seeks to strengthen tools against acts of corruption in public institutions.
In terms of health, legislators will analyze modifications to the General Health Law. The change would allow the therapeutic use of medications in cases of overdose due to psychotropic substances. The measure seeks to address emergencies with a harm reduction approach.
The agenda reflects an attempt to respond to technological and social challenges. The debates will be crucial to define the direction of public policies in sensitive areas.
