Stan Lee’s legacy will be heard again. ElevenLabs announced an official agreement to recreate with artificial intelligence the voice and appearance of the legendary Marvel creator, who died in 2018 at the age of 95.
Authorized technology
The company developed a digital version of the writer for storytelling, immersive experiences and interactive content. The difference, according to ElevenLabs, is that the project has legal authorization from the owners of its rights.
“Fans have always told us that when they read their comics, they hear the words in Stan’s voice, and now, thanks to ElevenLabs, we can make it a reality,” the company said in a video.
The voice cloning was carried out from professional recordings, with the aim of preserving “his warmth and sense of humor.”
More than voice
In addition, the agreement includes the authorized use of his digital likeness for comic-style templates, custom illustrations, holographic experiences and virtual appearances similar to the cameos he made in Marvel films.
It is not the first recreation of Stan Lee with AI. In 2025, an interactive hologram at LA Comic Com made it possible to converse with an avatar trained with real interviews. Some followers consider it a tribute; others, a question about the use of artificial intelligence on deceased celebrities.
