Railway incident in Oaxaca
President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that they are reviewing the causes of the incident that occurred yesterday on the Interoceanic Train, in the section of Line Z, between the communities of Nizanda and Chivela, municipality of Asunción Ixtaltepec, Oaxaca.
According to the Secretary of the Navy, the accident involved two articulated units of the freight train, each with two cars. Sheinbaum avoided calling it a derailment.
“More than a derailment, it moved, let’s say, the cars did not completely fall, but it was an incident. Yesterday it was reported by the Navy and reviews are being carried out,” he said at a press conference.
The president pointed out that they have already received the recommendations from the company TÜV Rheinland, in charge of the comprehensive evaluation of the Interoceanic Train. These observations are being worked on by Andrés Lajous, head of the Interoceanic Corridor.
“The passenger train, we are going to inform ourselves, the observations are already made by the consulting company TÜV, which was consulted to be able to carry out all the recommendations that they put forward to us. These recommendations are already there, Andrés Lajous is working on them with the interoceanic corridor, with the train,” he commented.
So far, no injuries or major damage have been reported. Authorities continue investigations to determine the exact causes of the incident and implement the necessary corrective measures.
