Honor is priceless
The last place in the table gave us a lesson in character. Santos Laguna, bottom of the Clausura 2026, came out to bite the field against a Monterrey that seemed more concerned about their vacation suitcases than about the game. Result: a resounding 3-0 that tastes like glory for the La Laguna fans.
“The Warriors showed that pride is not negotiable, even if positions say otherwise.”
While the Rayados played without soul, like a lukewarm team that only has a ticket but lacks drive, Santos showed what it means to wear a shirt. Youth player Joaquín Moxica almost opened the scoring with his first goal in Liga MX, but the VAR annulled it for offside. That didn’t stop the locals.
The Chilean who lit up the stadium
Santiago Mele made another mistake – there have been several – and Emmanuel Echeverría (43′) took advantage of the gift to open the scoring. But the best was yet to come: Aldo López (48′) dressed as a hero with a spectacular overhead kick that left everyone and everyone speechless. Great goal, pure soccer magic.
In the second half, Lucas Di Yorio (71′) scored the third and sealed the party. Monterrey finished in 13th place, its worst performance since 2008. A change of management is rumored for the next tournament.
Lesson for life
Santos goes to last place with only 12 points, but with its head held high. As in any sport—and in life—he who has the most resources does not always win, but rather he who puts his heart into it. This victory is a reminder: when all seems lost, you can still choose how to finish the race.
On the other hand, Cruz Azul secured third place by beating Necaxa 4-1. The Machine will face Atlas in the next round.
