A night of memories and new beginnings
Reyli Barba celebrated her 36-year career at the National Auditorium with a concert that combined nostalgia, confessions and surprises. The Chiapas singer, who has lived in Mexico City since he was 17, recalled the difficult moments that marked his path.
“I have been living in this city for thirty-six years… the potholes were also good, yes, the canteens were essential, although I don’t visit them now,” he told the audience.
From excesses to transformation
More than a decade ago, Barba decided to leave his vices behind. Before performing “That’s Life,” he shared his personal process:
“Thank God, just for today, I got rid of a thousand problems and 25 kilos that were already too much. Now my mother says that I even look handsome… and that they shouldn’t bring me any more bottles.”
The repertoire included classics from his time with Elefante, such as “El Abandonado”, “Sabir a chocolate” and “Si seguiras”. “Nothing is forever” had a special meaning: according to the singer, it was a premonition of the band’s breakup. “It was a healthy separation, very important in our careers,” he said.
Mariachi and a surprise guest
With his most recent album “A Caballo,” Barba brought out the Mariachi de América to perform “El Rey.” The surprise came when Majo Aguilar, among the audience, took the stage in jeans and a t-shirt to sing “16437 days”, a song they recorded together.
Wedding announcement and closing with a flourish
Among the revelations of the night, Barba confirmed that he will marry his girlfriend Tatiana next year. After 11:00 p.m., the chords of “Amor del Bueno”—with its characteristic intro “like a knife in butter”—ended the evening, with the audience chanting at the top of their lungs.
