Alejandro Fernández: tradition, pop and free concert at La Minerva
Alejandro Fernández assumed the legacy of his father, Vicente Fernández, and continued with Mexican music. Today, consolidated, he plans to return to genres such as pop and ballads.
“My time in pop was a very important moment in my career. The return of the rancheras was inevitable when my dad decided to retire. I wanted that chair and I didn’t want anyone to win it for me,” he explains.
The singer anticipates that he is already preparing new material with songs of love and romanticism.
Concert in La Minerva
This Thursday the 25th, Alejandro Fernández will offer a free concert at La Minerva, one of the most emblematic places in Guadalajara. It will be part of the World Cup celebrations and promises to be “the biggest serenade in the world.” He will be accompanied by about 40 musicians.
It will be his second presentation on that stage. The first brought together about 200 thousand people.
“It means introducing myself again here in my home, with my people, with the public that saw me born. Guadalajara has always opened its arms to me,” he says.
The repertoire will include rancheras and pop songs. The guests will be his children Alex and Camila Fernández, as well as Julión Álvarez and Alfredo Olivas.
The national anthem at the World Cup
On June 11, Alejandro performed the National Anthem for the first time at the opening of the World Cup, at the Mexico City Stadium. He confesses that he felt excitement, nerves and then courage.
“I started getting stage fright when they told me how many people were going to be watching television. I said: there’s no such thing as fear. I took courage, put on my headphones, forgot about the audience and sang the anthem as best I could.”
The singer rehearsed a lot, aware of the responsibility involved in singing the anthem.
