El “Fotrillo” lets loose the reins (and some uncomfortable truths)
Ah, Monterrey, land of mountains, industries and… deep musical debates? It seems that Alejandro Fernández, our beloved “Potrillo”, decided that his concert at the Domo Care would not only be a tribute to his late father, but also a mini TED Talk about freedom of expression (with a charro hat, of course). Because nothing says “contemporary philosophy” like a guy in a black suit singing “Volver, Volver” at 2 in the morning.
“Sing what you want, but I hope it’s about horses”
Between ranchero tunes and the inevitable smell of tequila in the air, Fernández released the pearl of the day: “Everyone has the right to sing whatever they want.” Thanks, Captain Obvious! Although, in a turn worthy of a soap opera, he added: “I have my decision, but I can’t say it.” Mystery? Strategy? Or simply fear that the cartels will serenade him… with AK-47? Who knows. The truth is that, with the elegance of someone who has inherited Fernández’s DNA, he suggested replacing narcocorridos with… horsefights. Because nothing calms spirits like an equine ballad. “El Cantador” and “Mi Amigo el Tordillo” were his proposal. Musical revolution or pastoral escapism? You decide.
AI, leaks and other “coincidences”
And like any self-respecting artist, Alejandro could not avoid the topic of the moment: Artificial Intelligence. When they asked him about some leaked videos of an alleged collaboration with Carín León, he said smilingly: “Maybe it’s AI.” Of course, because these days, even musical duets can be deepfakes. Or could it be that “Foal” is already preparing a song with Siri? “Hey Siri, give me a huapango”.
The show: between tears, tequila and nostalgia
Meanwhile, on stage, the show was a fest of emotions (and probably alarming blood alcohol levels among the audience). Alejandro revived his father’s classics with a mix of band, mariachi and orchestra, because why choose one genre when you can have them all? “No Me Sé Rajar” opened the show, followed by the inevitable “El Rey” and “Hermoso Cariño.” The night owls cried, screamed and, surely, swore eternal love for tequila. All very normal.
Brief meeting with the press (or how to escape elegantly)
In the end, from the comfort of his Suburban (because icons don’t walk, they travel in luxury vehicles), Alejandro gave a lightning interview. Smiling, evasive and with that air of “I already want to go to sleep”, he left more questions than answers. Your real position on narcocorridos? Mystery. Your opinion on censorship? Ambiguous. Your next album? No idea. But hey, at least he made one thing clear to us: in Mexico, even musical controversies are discussed with hat and boots.
