Historical reduction in Quintana Roo
The head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), Marcela Figueroa Franco, reported that the actions of the National Security Strategy have achieved an 85% reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides in Quintana Roo since the beginning of the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
During the presentation of the crime incidence report with figures as of June 30, 2026, Figueroa explained that the daily average of homicides in the entity went from two cases per day in September 2024 to 0.3 in June 2026.
June 2026 was the month with the lowest daily average of homicides in the last 12 years, registering a decrease of 57% compared to June 2025. When comparing the first semester of 2026 with the same period of the previous year, intentional homicide presented a reduction of 60%, making this semester the lowest since 2017.
In Tulum, the municipality has accumulated two consecutive months without intentional homicides (May and June), and so far in July it also maintains zero cases. At the beginning of the current administration, the municipality registered an average of 0.27 homicides per day.
Figueroa also highlighted that the security strategy has impacted other high-impact crimes. After reaching an all-time high of 19.6 daily crimes in 2019, the trend began to reverse. Between 2025 and 2026, there is a 15% reduction in this type of crime, which includes violent robberies, extortion and kidnapping.
