Analysis of the reduction of homicides and crimes in Guerrero
The head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), Marcela Figueroa, presented a detailed report that confirms a substantial decrease of 24% in intentional homicides in the state of Guerrero. This reduction is measured from the beginning of the federal administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The data, presented during the morning conference in Acapulco, are not limited to this crime, but show a general positive trend in the incidence of crime.
The technical analysis of the figures reveals that the year 2025 is positioned as the period with the lowest homicide rate since 2019. The precise statistics indicate a decrease from a daily average of 4.7 to 3.6 cases. Even more revealing is the monthly trend observed in recent quarters, where a 65% drop in intentional homicides is recorded between October 2024 and December 2025. December 2025, in particular, marked the lowest daily average in recent years, consolidating a downward trajectory.
Breakdown of the reduction in high-impact crimes
The SESNSP report extends its evaluation to high-impact crimes, where a global reduction of 18% is observed when comparing 2025 with 2024, going from 11.89 to 9.72 daily events on average. This result places 2025 as the year with the lowest incidence in the last eight years. A close examination by criminal type shows notable decreases in virtually all categories:
The business robbery with violence presents the most pronounced reduction, with 49.4%. This is followed by house robbery with violence (45.8%), robbery against a passer-by with violence (27.8%), extortion (20%) and all robberies with violence (17.8%). Other categories also show improvements: vehicle theft with violence decreased by 14.9%, other robberies with violence by 5.1%, and intentional injuries by firearm by 2.6%. The crimes of feminicide and kidnapping remained stable, with daily averages of 0.6 and 0.01, respectively, without significant statistical variation in the reported period.
Results focused on the municipality of Acapulco
The focus on the municipality of Acapulco, a nerve center for the security strategy, yields even more encouraging results. In this jurisdiction, the reduction in intentional homicides reached 71% between October 2024 and December 2025. In concrete terms, the daily average went from 2.32 to 0.68, that is, less than one homicide per day at the end of the period. Annually, the comparison between 2024 and 2025 shows a decrease of 25%. At the same time, high-impact crimes in Acapulco registered a 28% drop in the same annual period, stabilizing at an average of four events per day.
President Sheinbaum attributed these results to the implementation of a comprehensive security strategy that combines several axes. This model includes attention to the structural causes of violence, the operational and intelligence strengthening of the National Guard, and a substantial improvement in criminal investigation processes. A critical factor noted was the unprecedented coordination between the federal government and the state administration of Guerrero, led by Governor Evelyn Salgado, which allowed a more coherent and effective application of public policies on the matter.
This report provides a solid quantitative overview that suggests a change in the security dynamics in one of the most complex entities in the country. The data, supported by the SESNSP methodology, offer an objective basis to evaluate the impact of the strategies deployed, although experts emphasize the need to sustain these efforts in the medium and long term to consolidate the positive trend.
