New auriazul reinforcement
Club Universidad Nacional continues to put together the squad for Apertura 2026. After presenting Sebastián Córdova, this Saturday the arrival of Cristian “Chicote” Calderón was made official.
The 29-year-old Mexican defender arrives from Necaxa. During his loan with the Rayos, he played 14 games in each tournament—Apertura 2025 and Clausura 2026—, with one goal and one assist.
“The Mexican footballer immediately joins the first team to work towards the next competition,” the club reported in a statement. Calderón, an Atlas youth player, has worn the shirts of Atlas, América, Chivas and Necaxa. With Pumas it will be his fifth team and the third “big” team in Mexican soccer.
The player will join the team’s preseason in Cancún, Quintana Roo. Along with Córdova and coach Esteban Solari, he will be officially presented to the media once the group returns from the concentration.
Calderón’s arrival comes after he did not fit into the plans of Guillermo Almada, América’s new technical director. The Azulcrema board sought accommodation and Pumas reached an agreement to acquire its federative rights.
With this hiring, “Tano” Solari reinforces the left side of his defense, in a period of renewal after the departure of Efraín Juárez.
