The Mexican National Team was left out of the 2026 World Cup after falling in the round of 16 against England at the Mexico City Stadium. The venue looked full, as happened in every game played at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula.
Historical audience record
The match was not only experienced in the stands. Millions of fans followed him from home or at fan festivals. According to FIFA, a viewership record was broken.
“Mexico’s dramatic confrontation against England becomes the most watched FIFA World Cup match in the nation in the 21st century, with an average audience of 36 million through Televisa (20.7M) and Azteca (15.3M),” the organization published on social networks.
FIFA added: “The broadcast of the round of 16 match marks the fourth time that Mexico’s record has been broken during this tournament. Note: Nighttime viewing data; consolidated figures will be published after the tournament.”
