The coordinator of the PRI in the Senate, Manuel Añorve, stated that next Sunday’s mobilization, called by President Claudia Sheinbaum, seeks to stop the fall in popularity of the ruling party and divert attention from alleged cases of corruption linked to former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his children.
Signals against the ruling party
Upon leaving the meeting of the Political Coordination Board, Añorve assured that Morena faces political exhaustion. The government is trying to regroup its base with a speech in defense of national sovereignty, he said. In his opinion, the ruling party intends to change the narrative regarding the allegations of alleged links with organized crime and cases of corruption.
Añorve described Andrés Manuel López Beltrán as a “burden” for Morena. He said that within the movement there is concern about the questions surrounding the former president’s son. According to the PRI, the political push towards Tabasco seeks to grant it protection through constitutional jurisdiction.
Vote against reforms
On another issue, the senator announced that his party will vote against the four rulings on the judicial and electoral reform that will be discussed in the Senate. He accused that Morena seeks to consolidate an “authoritarian state” with legal changes that would allow it to control elections and maintain influence over the Judiciary.
He also criticized the initiative on foreign interventions in electoral processes and defended TV Azteca against what he described as an “attack” by the government against critical media. Añorve warned that the statements from the National Palace are a worrying signal for freedom of expression and could lead to attacks against other media.
