President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that this Monday the Mexican government will present formal complaints to the United States Department of Justice and to state prosecutors’ offices. The reason: the death of 17 Mexicans in US territory.

A call for political unity

Sheinbaum also called on all political parties to close ranks in defense of the human rights of their compatriots. The president stressed that unity is essential in the face of situations of violence and discrimination that Mexicans face abroad.

“This weekend there was a very important transfer of Hyundai company vehicles through the Interoceanic. They arrived in Salina Cruz and left through Coatzacoalcos,” he explained at Monday’s morning conference.

Sheinbaum announced that this week it will be decided whether the collaboration becomes permanent.

Automotive context and tariffs

The president also referred to the closure of a Toyota plant in Tijuana and its relocation to Texas, a fact celebrated by Donald Trump and attributed to his tariff policy.

Sheinbaum stated that they maintain contact with the automotive industry and seek to reduce the unilateral tariff imposed by the United States. “The sale of national vehicles has increased,” he said, and announced a third meeting with the sector.

Regarding the closure of Toyota, he clarified that it is not immediate, but a process of years. “We give alternatives to workers with the Ministry of Labor, the governors and the Ministry of Economy,” he said.

Sheinbaum hopes that negotiations with the US will advance to eliminate or reduce the tariff on auto imports.

Three male bodies in an advanced state of decomposition were located on a plot of land near the El Mezquite community, in the municipality of El Fuerte, very close to the border with Durango.

Federal government will invest 58,415 million pesos in schools by 2026

The federal government will allocate 58,415 million pesos to the La Escuela es Nuestra program during 2026, reported Mario Delgado, head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), at a press conference.

Resources by educational level
For basic education, 37,715 million pesos will be allocated; for Upper Secondary, 10,916 million; and for Higher Education, 9,783 million. Pamela López Ruiz, general director of the program, explained that so far resources have been delivered to 71,482 schools, with a social investment of 22,694 million pesos.

86 million pesos have been spent on initial education; in preschool, 6,124 million; in primary, 6,576 million; in secondary school, 5,282 million; and in the upper middle, 4 thousand 288 million.

Closing of the 2025-2026 school year
Delgado described the closure as “a good closing of the cycle” as the New Mexican School was consolidated with advances in health, infrastructure, scholarships and attention to the teaching profession. The “Live Healthy, Live Happy” program allowed for the census of 10.8 million children, who already have a digital school health record. Many were referred to consultations with nutritionists, dental care and delivery of free glasses.
