Pumas falls to América de Cali in their farewell prior to the tournament

Pumas fell 0-1 against América de Cali in their last friendly before Apertura 2026.

Defeat at the Pumas Fan Fest

Esteban Solari’s era at the head of Pumas started with a setback. The Auriazul team lost 0-1 against América de Cali at the Olympic University, in their last preparation match towards Apertura 2026.

The Pumas Fan Fest 2026 was intended to be a celebration to leave behind the defeat in the Clausura 2026 final and the departure of Efraín Juárez. However, the setback against the Colombian team increased uncertainty in Ciudad Universitaria, amid the change of coach and the arrival of some reinforcements.

The only goal of the match came in the 34th minute. A collective play on the left sector and an error in the Auriazul defense allowed Yeison Guzmán to push the ball into the back of the net. The Red Devils maintained the advantage and took the trophy in dispute.

Solari looked for variants from the bench. Alan Medina, Álvaro Angulo and Guillermo Martínez entered to give another breath to the attack, but none of them managed to worry the Brazilian goalkeeper Jean Fernandes, who had an afternoon without major surprises.

One of the positive points was the debut of Sebastián Córdova, Cristian Calderón and Víctor Arteaga with the Auriazul shirt. The three added their first minutes, although the team failed to make a difference on the scoreboard.

Diego Cocca leaves the Atlas FC bench

Diego Cocca is no longer Atlas coach. The board is looking for a new coach before the debut in the Apertura 2026.

Atlas FC begins a new stage without Diego Cocca

A few days before the start of Apertura 2026, Atlas FC underwent a change in its sports project. Diego Cocca stopped being technical director of the red and black team after negotiations for his continuity did not prosper. The board accelerates the search for a new coach before the debut against León.

The reasons behind the departure

The differences between the Argentine strategist and the leadership would have been related to the formation of the squad and the reinforcements hired for the new tournament. The lack of agreement prevented both parties from reaching a definitive agreement.

Cocca led the preseason and participated in the work leading up to the championship, in addition to appearing at public events with the new administration. However, the contractual relationship was never formalized.

Official statement from the club

“Atlas FC informs that, as part of the institutional and sporting re-engineering process promoted by the new administration of the Club, it was not possible to reach an agreement for the continuity of Diego Cocca as Technical Director of the First Team.”

“The institution thanks Diego Cocca for the professionalism, work and dedication he showed during his time at the head of the First Team, a period in which he contributed significantly to the recent history of the Club. Likewise, it wishes him the greatest success in his future projects.”

What’s next for Atlas?

The club is holding advanced conversations with different candidates and will announce the decision in the coming days. “We reiterate to our fans that each decision responds to the firm commitment to strengthening Atlas FC and consolidating a solid, stable and competitive sports project, with a long-term vision,” the institution detailed.
