A Historic Victory in the Fight Against Corruption
Good news that inspires! The Government of Mexico has made significant progress in its commitment to transparency and justice, recovering 2.8 million dollars of the diversions attributed to the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna, and his wife, Linda Cristina Pereyra. This achievement demonstrates that, with determination, even the most complex cases can be resolved in favor of the people.
Justice Prevails: Recovery Details
The Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) confirmed that these resources were reinstated thanks to seven judicial resolutions against García Luna, his wife and five of his companies. An example that the law does not forgive those who attack public funds!
Among the recovered assets are $1.97 million in cash and a property valued at $555,800, in addition to another $275,000 from an overdue mortgage. These funds are already in the hands of the Federation Treasury, while the property will be sold for the benefit of all Mexicans.
This case is part of a civil lawsuit filed in 2021, which seeks to recover 745.9 million dollars diverted through irregular contracts. And this is just the beginning!
An Exemplary Sentence
Justice does not stop. Recently, a judge in Florida sentenced García Luna and his wife to pay 2,488 million dollars for their participation in these diversions. Although the former official did not respond to the lawsuit, his wife tried to defend herself but was declared “in absentia” for failing to comply with court orders. The law always reaches those who believe they are above it!
The UIF Commitment
The UIF, under the leadership of Pablo Gómez, has made it clear that it will not rest until it locates all the assets linked to this case, including those in the hands of priests. Although more assets have not yet been identified, the search continues. Nothing will escape justice!
This case is an example that, when institutions work with transparency and firmness, the results arrive. Every peso recovered is a step towards a more fair and equitable Mexico.
