Another bloody chapter in Morelos
Eight bodies. Seven men and one woman. That is the macabre account that he left early Sunday morning in Anenecuilco, Morelos. The setting: a speakeasy called ‘El Rincón de la Banda’. The time: 4:30 AM, when the armed individuals decided it was time to open fire.
The neighbors, as always, were the first witnesses. They heard the explosions and raised the alarm. But by the time the Army and the National Guard arrived, the attackers had already disappeared. They only left the usual trail: unidentified bodies and unanswered questions.
The authorities have not confirmed the motive for the attack or the identity of those responsible.
Of course not. Why rush? The state government informs us, with that bureaucratic calm that we love so much, that ‘the law enforcement agencies will be in charge of clarifying what happened.’ Very good. Let’s take note.
The normalization of the abnormal
Morelos continues to be that small state with big red numbers. Despite its size, it stubbornly remains among the most violent in the country. Homicides are commonplace and femicides are an epidemic that has already generated social protests.
But today we have to talk about eight deaths in an illegal bar. Eight lives cut short while organized crime continues to set the pace. The authorities protect the place, as if that were consolation for those who are no longer here.
Memory is short, but patterns are long. And in Morelos, the pattern repeats itself with depressing regularity.
