Hugo Sánchez’s call to the Mexican fans
Hugo Sánchez released a direct message during the presentation of Panini’s 2026 World Cup album. The former forward asked to leave behind the boos, criticism and mistreatment of national players.
“It is a very interesting topic… We are the best in the world, but not only the best fans in the world, but we are the best country in the world. And we have to compliment ourselves, because we have a lot of pride,” he declared.
For the “Pentapichichi”, the World Cup must become an unforgettable party. He remembered the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, where Mexico left its mark due to the atmosphere and the reception of visitors.
“If we are the only ones who have organized three World Cups, it will be for a reason… The 70 World Cup… everyone always remembers that World Cup. The 86 World Cup… people always remember it,” he commented.
The key role of the fans
Hugo insisted that support from the stands and outside them can influence the performance of the national team.
“We, the fans who are outside, have to play… that we support each other, that we don’t boo, that we whistle at each other… Please, we are Mexicans, we have to work as a team,” he emphasized.
The historic scorer asked to show the world the best side of the country during the 2026 World Cup.
“I received it in Europe… Now we need the support of the fans of the national team. We do not want violence, we need to give an image to the world, that we are the best in the world in all this,” he said.
