The mountain is back!
“I’m home!” With that phrase, Miley Cyrus announced the return of Hannah Montana. Not for a new season, but for an intimate special that celebrates 20 years of the phenomenon that defined a generation. It is now available on Disney+.
Imagine this: a black Mustang convertible, HN20 license plates, blonde hair flying in the wind. This is how the character reappears, driving from the beaches of California to the Sunset Gower studios. The destination: a mini-concert for fans who are adults today, but who revived their teenage self from 2006 when listening to The Best of Both Worlds.
A set frozen in time
After “Happy 20th Anniversary,” Miley toured the original set where she recorded for five years. From the makeup hallway to the beach house living room. Everything was exactly the same as it was two decades ago.
“It’s strange being here, but I feel at home,” he confessed.
Why make this tribute now? In conversation with Alex Cooper (from Call Her Daddy), Miley explained it clearly: the series allowed everyone to live Hannah’s adventures. A concert would only be seen by those who could pay the ticket. Plus, it was time to reflect on how she and her followers have changed.
Authenticity was her superpower since the auditions. She remembered complete choreographies, revealed that her mother helped buy things for the series (and knew how to distinguish between “very Miley” and “very Hannah”), and they reviewed the character’s iconic closet with all her anecdotes.
The emotional cameos: Her platonic love Zac Efron, her ex Dylan Sprouse, and how she made it a condition that Nick Jonas accompany her on tour (which made the Jonas Brothers her opening act).
The special brought together key figures: her mother Tish Cyrus (her support from the beginning), executive Gary Marsh (who opted for her), Selena Gomez (with whom she recorded two episodes), and her father Billy Ray Cyrus, with whom they even read the script for the last episode.
The closing was perfect: Miley premiered “Younger You”, a song written especially for this reunion with her younger self. An ending that sums up the entire vibe of the special: nostalgia without cheesiness, genuine affection and recognition of what that purple suit meant.
