Guadalajara already has the most expensive squad in the MX League

Chivas surpasses América and other giants in squad value according to Transfermarkt.

The new economic leadership of Chivas

With the arrivals of Jordan Carrillo and Kevin Castañeda, Guadalajara not only added talent on the field, but also economic value. According to the specialized site Transfermarkt, the red and white team now has the most expensive squad in Liga MX.

Four days away from debuting in Apertura 2026, the Sacred Flock is valued at $126.3 million. This figure places it ahead of América (118.6), Toluca (106.6), Cruz Azul (101.1) and Tigres (91.5), which complete the top five.

In the previous tournament, the Águilas were the most valuable team, followed by Chivas. The rise to first place is explained, in part, by the youth of its staff.

Transfermarkt points to Armando González as the footballer with the highest value in Liga MX, with 17.6 million dollars. He is followed by Érik Lira (14), Marcel Ruiz (11.7), Alejandro Zendejas (11.7) and Gilberto Mora (11.7).

Being the most expensive does not guarantee success. In Clausura 2026, Chivas was eliminated in the semifinals by Cruz Azul. Having the highest cost does not ensure championships if the performance on the field is not adequate. Argentine strategist Gabriel Milito faces pressure to go further this tournament.

Chivas without excuses: Luis Romo demands the title

Luis Romo assures that Chivas must be champion and that the excuses are over.

Last tournament, Chivas left a bitter taste when they were eliminated by Cruz Azul in the semifinals. The team arrived depleted by the absence of five called up to the Mexican National Team. Now, with the full squad and new reinforcements, the message is clear.

“We have to be champions… the objectives are no longer to reach the Liguilla, it is no longer the first places, it is no longer to get to the semifinals. Today is completely the championship,” declared Luis Romo.

The midfielder was one of those selected and knows that there are no more excuses. The additions seek to strengthen the team. “Something very big is being created. The only objective is to win,” he added.

Despite the clear goals, Romo acknowledged that they must improve. In the debut of Apertura 2026, Chivas fell at home against Toluca with a very poor display.

“We have to improve, learn a lot from that game, because again Toluca makes us pay with that hierarchy of a team that has been champion,” he said.

For the red and white captain, teams like the Red Devils are the ideal parameter. “To be champions and really compete, those are the rivals we have to beat.”

Romo concluded: “We want to be champions, but we have to grow, be more forceful, decisive, stop making mistakes. The only objective is to win. We don’t think about anything other than going step by step.”

Xolos vs León: duel of the needy on the border

The Xolos de Tijuana return to action this Friday when they host León at the Caliente Stadium. The match corresponds to Matchday 2 of Apertura 2025.

In their debut, the border team beat Tigres 3-1, taking advantage of the rival’s mistakes. For their part, the Panzas Verdes fell 2-3 at home against Atlas and will seek to get back on track.

The words of Sebastián Abreu

The Xolos coach, Sebastián Abreu, highlighted in a press conference his satisfaction with the three points against Tigres. “We are happy for the victory, but we know that there are things to improve, such as the dead ball. In football, winning is much easier,” said the strategist.

Balanced track record

The history between both teams is even. They have faced each other 39 times: 15 wins for each and 9 draws. However, Xolos has won three of the last four duels.

Recent performance

León’s main challenge is to stabilize its lines, after showing defensive doubts against Atlas. While Tijuana seeks to start a tournament with two victories for the first time since Apertura 2024.

The match is scheduled for this Friday at 9:00 p.m. at the Caliente Stadium. It will be broadcast on Fox, Fox One and Caliente TV.
