Ferrari faces a technical challenge at the Mexican Grand Prix

The Italian team faces unique conditions at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where the altitude requires a specific configuration of the car.

A complex scenario for the Maranello team

The Ferrari team is preparing for one of the most demanding events on the Formula 1 calendar: the Mexican Grand Prix. After the victory of the Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Jr. in the previous edition, public expectations are high, but the drivers themselves, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, recognize that this year the competition represents a real technical and strategic challenge. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit, located more than 2,200 meters above sea level, imposes unique conditions that test aerodynamic efficiency and tire management.

The British driver Lewis Hamilton, who is going through his first season with the Prancing Horse without having achieved a podium, was hopeful of being able to capitalize on the accumulated experience. “I think we were very competitive here last year, so I am confident that we will be able to take advantage of the data collected and apply it effectively during this event,” declared the seven-time world champion. However, his preparation for the qualifying session will be affected, as he will not participate in the initial free practice.

Team strategy and adaptation to altitude

This Friday, as part of the regulation that requires all teams to give the wheel to new drivers in at least two first practices per season, Antonio Fuoco took Hamilton’s place in the first free session. This adds an additional layer of complexity for the Brit, who noted: “I will miss that valuable running session, so this weekend I will have to adapt and learn the rhythm of the track practically from scratch.” This situation underlines the importance of data collection in such a peculiar circuit.

For his part, Charles Leclerc, who arrives motivated after achieving a podium at the Circuit of the Americas and who currently occupies fifth position in the drivers’ championship, maintains a realistic perspective. “At this moment, it seems unlikely that we will fight for victory this weekend, although in motorsports you can never rule out anything. The last edition was very positive for us; Carlos was extremely strong throughout the event and it was difficult for me to reach his level of performance,” confessed the Monegasque driver.

The critical factors at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

Leclerc clearly identified the extreme altitude of Mexico City as the main obstacle to overcome. “The management of these tires is essential, and an error in their configuration or use can be very costly. Our methodology will be progressive; unlike the previous Grand Prix, here we will have three training sessions to refine the adjustment of the car and ensure that we reach qualifying in the best possible position,” explained the driver, who is looking to achieve his seventh podium of the season. The low air density at this altitude reduces downforce and engine cooling, requiring specific engineering solutions to maintain performance.

The Ferrari team’s approach is therefore focused on meticulous strategic planning. The ability to adapt the car to these unique conditions, combined with impeccable execution by its drivers, will be decisive for the final result. Although victory may seem like a distant goal, the Italian team has the opportunity to demonstrate its resilience and technical evolution on one of the most demanding circuits in the championship.

Carlos Salcido highlights the legacy of Guillermo Ochoa

Carlos Salcido thanked Ochoa for her energy and resilience, and asked for more guides for young people.

Reactions to Ochoa’s retirement

A few days ago, Guillermo Ochoa announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41. The news generated various reactions in the media. Carlos Salcido, a former teammate on the Mexican team, dedicated heartfelt words to him.

“I thank Memo for that energy, that positivity, that resilience that he has shown,” said the former defender. He stressed that these qualities must serve as an example for new generations.

Salcido also reflected on the lack of references in Mexico.

“Here we are lacking those guides, those characters that motivate us, especially the boys, the girls. Right now we are with the issue of the Women’s League and sometimes we grow a little from those guides to be protagonists and try to make our dreams of being soccer players come true. Today Memo is doing that, later the twenty will fall, but what he has done is impressive,” he explained.

In his farewell, Ochoa shared an emotional message after his participation in the 2026 World Cup, his sixth World Cup.

“I gave it my all, I left everything in my teams and in my national team, and today I hand in my gloves,” he stated.

Salcido closed with a thank you: he recognized the goalkeeper’s dedication during his long career.

Leagues Cup 2023 will take matches to Mexico for the first time

Four official matches in Mexico mark the 2023 edition of the tournament between Liga MX and MLS.

Leagues Cup 2023: venues in Mexico and new dynamics

From August 4 to September 6, 18 clubs from Liga MX and 18 from Major League Soccer will compete for the Leagues Cup title. For the first time, four official matches will be played on Mexican territory.

Fans will be able to attend Toluca vs. Seattle Sounders and Toluca vs. Dallas at Nemesio Diez; America vs. San Diego FC at Banorte; and Tigers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps at the Universitario. The organization seeks to strengthen the growth of the contest on both sides of the border.

Carlos Salcido, former soccer player and ambassador of the competition, recalled the intensity of the previous duels between teams from both countries.

“I had to play very cool, very intense and very exciting matches as a player against teams from the United States. In this edition I don’t think it will be the exception.”

Salcido also hoped that a Mexican club could win the trophy, after the first three editions were won by MLS teams.

“We need a Mexican club to appear in this Cup. The last three editions have been won by clubs from the United States, let’s hope this is the good one.”

Tom Mayo, executive director of the Leagues Cup, highlighted the unique nature of the tournament.

“The Leagues Cup is the only official tournament in the world that pits two professional Leagues against each other. That makes this competition unique.”

Víctor Guevara, sports director, pointed out that the rivalry between both leagues is the essence of the championship.

“The rivalry between the Liga MX and MLS teams is the essence of the tournament. That was what we learned from the first edition and it is what we want to continue strengthening year after year.”

The format requires maximum concentration: each club plays three games in the initial phase, always against rivals from the opposite league. Afterwards, only the four best in each circuit advance to direct elimination. A draw or a defeat can leave anyone out.
