Marvel passes on Famke Janssen as if she were a forgettable post-credits cameo
It seems that in the Marvel offices there is a list of “X-Men” to rescue and, oh, surprise, the name of Famke Janssen is conspicuous by its absence, like a winking easter egg that no one finds. The actress who gave life to the powerful and tragic Jean Grey in the original mutant saga has confirmed what many of us suspected: Kevin Feige and his entourage have not had, nor do they have, the slightest interest in her repeating her role in the much vaunted “Avengers: Doomsday“.
In a revelation that has left fans more clueless than Deadpool at an Avengers meeting, Janssen told Entertainment Weekly with a mix of irony and resignation: “Never. Ever.” So forceful. Not an email, not a voice message, not even a humble pigeon carrier (yes, the Marvel ones have them) has arrived at his door. Meanwhile, half of Hollywood that once wore a tight spandex suit for Fox has received its call up. Could it be that his interpretation of a Fenix Dark was so definitive that it scares the current leaders of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (UCM)? Or maybe your agent simply has the number blocked.
The spectacle of the return (for everyone except her)
The most hilarious thing about this situation is the media circus that Marvel set up to present the film’s cast. In a stream that looked more like the Champions League draw, they showed chairs with the names of the lucky ones. And there they were, in all their splendor, the mutant veterans: Patrick Stewart (Professor Come on, even the most secondary mutant had his seat reserved. But Mrs. Janssen, the one who nearly destroyed the world in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” seems to have run out of room at the table. Could it not have been one of those oversights that they later solve with a time travel scene?
The actress, with an elegance that deserves an ovation, was “grateful” that fans still remember her character, adding sardonically that “I’m sure that every time they release a new movie, like ‘Doomsday’?… the topic will come up again.” Come on, you know that this interview will be reduced to this headline, an infinite cycle as repetitive as the Spider-Man reboots.
And if the exclusion were not enough, the film also prepares the great return of Robert Downey Jr., but not as our beloved Iron Man, but transformed into the villain Victor von Doom. Because, of course, what better way to celebrate the multiverse than by having a heroic icon become an antagonist? Meanwhile, Janssen is not even offered a cameo as a variant of Jean Gray from a universe where everyone is a pastry chef. Poetic justice shines as bright as Iron Man’s armor in a night scene.
So now you know: get ready for “Avengers: Doomsday“, the movie where all your favorite mutants return… well, all but one. At least fans can take solace in knowing that, in some parallel universe, Famke Janssen is getting that call and signing a million-dollar contract. But in this one, ours, Marvel has decided that its story with the X-Men is a definitively closed chapter. What things.
