English victory and message of brotherhood
After the elimination of Mexico at the hands of England in the 2026 World Cup, the British embassy in our country celebrated the victory of its team and sent a message of friendship. “Competitors for a few minutes, but friends for more than 200 years,” the diplomatic headquarters published on social networks.
“England continues the World Cup journey,” added the representation, along with thanks for “sharing this historic moment between our countries.”
Ties that transcend sport
The British ambassador to Mexico, Susannah Goshko, said before the meeting that the match was “an extraordinary opportunity” to celebrate the deep ties between both nations. He mentioned the arrival of British miners to Hidalgo at the end of the 19th century as part of that shared history.
Goshko highlighted that the relationship goes beyond football: it includes educational exchanges, climate cooperation and trade. “Almost two centuries after we began diplomatic relations, we continue to share values such as unity, respect and coexistence,” he stated.
The match, more than a sporting result, became an example of the friendship between two countries united by more than two centuries of history.
