France beats Paraguay with a Mbappé penalty and advances to the quarterfinals.

The French National Team continues its firm path in the 2026 World Cup. It beat Paraguay by the slightest difference and secured its place in the quarterfinals.

Match key

Paraguay presented a defensive match. Their goal was to keep a clean sheet in their goal rather than looking for a goal. The strategy worked for 70 minutes against the most effective attack of the tournament, with 14 accumulated scores.

However, a foul inside the area led to a penalty. Kylian Mbappé executed correctly from the eleven steps and made the difference. With this goal, he reached seven goals in the competition, equaling Lionel Messi at the top of the scoring table.

Official balance of the earthquakes in Venezuela

Ten days after the devastating earthquakes of June 24, the death toll reaches 2,954 and the injured total 16,592, according to a report from the Venezuelan authorities.

The seismic doublet – considered the most powerful in the last century in the country – has generated 942 aftershocks. So far, 190 structures have collapsed and 16,309 people have lost their homes, according to the official balance sheet.

The government reported that 6,462 people have been rescued. Although the passage of time reduces the chances of finding survivors, hope persists.

International response

More than 3,200 rescuers from various nations, along with their trained canine teams, arrived to support the search efforts. On Saturday, the acting president Delcy Rodríguez decorated several of them.

“The Venezuelan people will never forget the friendly hand that came to assist, that came to console, that came to accompany,” said Rodríguez during the farewell ceremony for the teams from the United Kingdom, Qatar, France, India, Barbados, Brazil and Argentina, prior to receiving the Heroes of Venezuela Medal.

According to the government, more than 140 nations contributed humanitarian aid or rescue teams.

The Venezuelan people “live in deep mourning,” but “there is still hope among relatives of finding people alive,” added the president in charge.
