Elton John confesses why his musical Tammy Faye failed on Broadway

Elton John reveals the reason behind the abrupt end of his controversial Broadway musical.

The twilight of a golden dream on Broadway

In a dramatic turn that shocked the world of entertainment, the legendary Elton John, with his voice full of melancholy, revealed to The Sunday Times the bitter fate of his ambitious project, the musical “Tammy Faye“. Like a phoenix that was never reborn, the production went out prematurely on the most coveted stage on the planet: Broadway.

The harsh truth behind the curtain

With the candor of a man who has seen stars fall, the British icon confessed that his work was “too political for America“, words that echoed like thunder through the industry. While “The Devil Wears Prada” triumphed in London’s West End, “Tammy Faye” became a specter that haunted the empty corridors of Broadway, a reminder of the ephemerality of glory.

“Two musicals, two opposite destinies,” Elton mused with the wisdom of someone who knows the whims of success. A resounding failure on the other side of the ocean, contrasting with an overwhelming success in his homeland. Irony, cruel and poetic, thus wove another chapter in the artist’s legend.

Was the American public unable to digest its bold message? Or will time judge this work as a misunderstood gem? Only destiny knows…

Tom Cruise transforms into ‘Digger’ under the direction of Iñárritu

Tom Cruise appears unrecognizable in the trailer for 'Digger', Iñárritu's new environmental comedy.

First look

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Digger, the new film by Mexican Alejandro G. Iñárritu. It marks his return to English-language cinema since The Revenant and his first collaboration with Tom Cruise.

The trailer shows Cruise in the role of Digger Rockwell, a billionaire whose company triggers a global-scale ecological disaster. Far from the action hero, he appears with prosthetics, overweight, gray hair and a southern accent. His character is “the most powerful man in the world”, but also the main person responsible for the chaos.

The plot: Digger begins a race to convince the world that he can save humanity while trying to contain the disaster he himself caused. The trailer starts with a phrase from the protagonist:

“Everything changes. One day you are a king. The next, you are just ashes in a box.”

A key moment: Digger minimizes the displacement of a glacier in Greenland, ignoring irreversible consequences. John Goodman plays the president of the United States, who demands a solution to avoid the catastrophe.

The mix of black humor and political criticism was described by Iñárritu as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.”

The cast includes Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, Emma D’Arcy and Sophie Wilde. Filming lasted six months in the United Kingdom, with photography by Emmanuel Lubezki in VistaVision format.

For Cruise, Digger represents a turnaround after more than a decade focused on franchises like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun. It is his first project with Warner Bros. since the agreement signed in 2024.

The film hits theaters on October 2.
