Alleged perpetrator arrested
In a joint operation during the early hours of the morning, state, federal and military forces detained Rafael “N” in the Santa Fe residential complex in San Andrés Cholula. He is accused of being responsible for at least twelve gun attacks against vehicles on the Vía Atlixcáyotl, Periférico Ecológico and Camino Real a Cholula.
The incidents, which occurred in recent months, had generated concern among the inhabitants of the metropolitan area of Puebla. The authorities concentrated their search on Vía Atlixcáyotl after an increase in gunshots on that road.
Experts had criticized the official response. Researcher Valente Tallabs González, from the UPAEP, pointed out:
An issue that concerns all of us who live in the city of Puebla is a fact that cannot be isolated, it is not enough to open a research folder, it is not enough for it to be resolved.
Tallabs warned that a lack of communication and timely action increased the risk of the attacks continuing. “The authority has to demonstrate that it is actively protecting the population, because we all feel vulnerable at any time of the day,” he added.
The arrest was made through a search. So far, no further details about the judicial process have been revealed.
