Pedro Sola faces boycott from brands for comments about dogs

Brands withdraw advertising and file a complaint against the driver.

Chain reaction against Pedro Sola

The Ventaneando host’s statements about dogs in public spaces caused a wave of consequences. On July 6, Pedro Sola expressed:

“It makes you want to shoot… the owners.”

He also mentioned “wanting to throw a piece of poisoned meat” when referring to dogs in strollers. Although he apologized on July 8, the controversy did not stop.

Hellmann’s reacted online with a sign that says “Don’t even mention it to me” held by a mayonnaise, accompanied by the message: “Here we love and respect lomitos.” The brand alluded to Sola’s 2006 episode when he mixed up mayonnaise brands.

Mondelez International brands—Panditas, Clorets, Halls and Trident—withdrew their Ventaneando advertising schedule. Clorets issued a statement:

“We condemn any form of violence, mistreatment or cruelty towards animals. Pets are part of the family for millions of Mexicans.”

The Environmental and Territorial Planning Office (PAOT) of CDMX rejected Sola’s expressions for normalizing violence. On July 10, the organization Goes for its rights filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office for possible advocacy of animal abuse and provocation to commit crimes.

The brands clarified that the statements are the sole responsibility of the driver and do not represent their values. Hellmann’s declined to comment further.
