Strategic alliance against the reduction of funds for HIV/AIDS
The Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Looking Out Foundation, led by Brandi Carlile, have established an unprecedented collaboration to promote the Who Believes in Angels? campaign. This initiative seeks to mitigate the impact of budget cuts on the global response to HIV/AIDS, particularly those implemented during the Donald Trump administration, which put at risk medical and social advances made in recent decades.
Consequences of inaction
In a statement, Elton John warned about the repercussions of not acting urgently: “Lack of funding could trigger a public health crisis, reversing key achievements in prevention and treatment.” Data from The Lancet HIV support this warning: if cuts persist, 10.8 million new cases and 2.9 million deaths are projected by 2030 in 26 priority countries.
Concrete objectives and mobilization
The funds raised will go to the Rocket Response Fund, focused on reactivating critical services such as closed clinics, distribution of antiretrovirals and awareness campaigns. The campaign takes the name of the collaborative album of both artists, linking art and activism. Brandi Carlile highlighted: “This alliance gives additional purpose to our music, honoring Elton’s legacy in the fight against AIDS.”
