The organized teaching profession responds to a controversial dismissal
The news that Marx Arriaga is no longer in charge of Educational Materials at the SEP, and his subsequent entrenchment in the offices, did not go unnoticed. The Committees for the Defense of the New Mexican School (Codenem) came out with a forceful statement.
Through a statement, they demanded his immediate reinstatement, describing the dismissal as unjustified. But they didn’t stop there. The list of requests is long and revealing.
They demanded the reinstatement of Marx Arriaga Navarro… in addition to a 100 percent salary increase for teachers.
The request for the increase seeks, according to them, to compensate for “more than 30 years of losses” due to what they call neoliberal policies. A direct nod to the official narrative, but used here as a bargaining chip.
An exit that, according to them, puts an entire project at risk
The central demand is clear: that the pedagogical reasons for the dismissal be explained or that it be admitted that it was a political decision. They see it as a threat to the continuity of the New Mexican School and Free Textbooks.
They warned that modifying the contents without first reforming the General Education Law would be a mistake. They asked for open calls for new materials, permanent places for normal students and eliminating differences between rural and urban schools.
The final message from the organized teaching profession is clear: their loyalty is to the educational project, not to administrative decisions. They reject the dismissal and call to defend the model. The ball remains in the court of whoever made the decision.
