Dream debut for ‘Chino’ Huerta
César Huerta experienced his first match in a World Cup. The Anderlecht forward came on as a substitute in the second half of the duel that Mexico won 1-0 against South Korea, corresponding to the second day of Group A of the 2026 World Cup.
The match was played in Guadalajara, his homeland. Therefore, the experience had a special meaning.
“Very happy and, also, adding the bonus that I am from here in Guadalajara and my family was present, I think that made it even more special,” declared the footballer.
With this victory, the Mexican National Team secured its place in the round of 32. He also guaranteed that, if they advance, the round of 16 would be played at the Mexico City Stadium.
Javier Aguirre’s team leads the group regardless of Wednesday’s result against the Czech Republic. However, the goal is to close the group stage with three victories, something that has never happened in the history of El Tri.
Regarding the atmosphere in the locker room, Huerta commented:
“[Javier Aguirre] is very happy, he didn’t say anything to us. We didn’t even talk, we went in, we greeted each other and I think you can feel the good vibes of the team. We are all very happy. The excitement, the motivation and that beautiful responsibility we have to make sure people feel well represented by their National Team.”
Before the World Cup, Huerta had only played 45 minutes with the National Team in 2026. It was in the friendly against Australia at the Rose Bowl. He recognizes that there are still aspects to improve in the World Cup.
“That is a plus for us and we are very excited to continue being close to our people,” added the ‘Chino’.
Mexico will seek to remain undefeated and make history with a full score of points in the group stage.
